Off-Putting Update, Possibly NSFW

Some spaced-out photography half an hour after I awoke from anaesthetic :) Anyone else had this op to help them breathe? OMFG, the packing removal!!!

  2. Did you have nasal polyp removal?

  3. Thanks folks! :)

It was septorhinoplasti and turbinate reduction ~ my septum was out of place so that was straightened up, some cartilage taken away and some of my big bony turbinates were removed.(I don't even know what that means). No polyps that I know about but I hear that gives the same symptoms. There are lots of glucky noises and ejected blood clots flying about but I'm being reassured it was a success :)Hopefully I will be able to smell and taste again soon.

  4. I'm about to undergo polyp removal and they want to straighten a deviated septum from a time that I got jumped long ago. That's why I was curious.

How long is your hospital stay? I've read in some places, they'll keep people a whole week and in others it's an in and out procedure once the sedatives wear off.

    Best wishes on your recovery!

    1. I was out half a day after the procedure, the packing removal was the worst, but that took about 10 seconds each nostril (after I stopped complaining). Next to no pain overall, splints and stitches to come out next Friday, barely know they're there...you'll do fine!

  6. I have had that operation twice! The first time they went up in there was to do something similar to what you had done. I guess it didn't take, because they went up in there again to make some further adjustments. It did improve things. My nose is hardly ever stuffy now. Best part was: after X number of days of healing, I got to do a sinus lavage, and all the gunk came out, and my nose felt so clear - like you could drive a truck through it. Best of luck with your healing.

    1. How long did it last the first time, Kurt? I was warned it might come back but I'm taking my chances. I read up on the options, some of the long lasting methods leave air-breathing a bit hurty (although I had no choice, I think I had the option that doesn't always last). It's only been 48 hrs and the release of pressure is unreal. Hope you have continued success with yours.

  7. The second operation was just a few months after the first. I was told fungus had gotten in there (?) and they needed to go back in.

It's been about ten years since the operation, and everything seems to be functioning fine. I haven't noticed any deterioration.

I saw another ENT a few years ago just to check on things, and he said everything looked fine.

  8. Oh Yes. Remember that well - 'bout 30 years ago Turbinectomy and Austronmy plus a little bit of plastic - Did you get the inflatable bladders up there too ? Don't Worry - The pain will diminish in time :)

    1. I'm afraid I'm not sure what's up there amongst the snot...some sort of stitched-in splints I think. The pain isn't bad at all...maybe that means it hasn't worked?

    1. It is nowhere near as bad as it looks ~ I took the pics shortly after I came round. Don't worry about all the blood, I'm a bleeder, you won't be so bad :)

  10. Gak!

Good to hear it hurts less than it looks, thanks for the info, I've a nasty suspicion I'm headed that way too.

Get well soon. Don't sniff anything frightening until it's all healed.

  11. I'm going to need to see some Glamour Shots of you, maybe more than a few, in order to get your nose-pack photos out of my head. Here's hoping your nose is light and airy real soon, and that once again your movie star looks emerge to lighten our lives. Got any 8x10 glossies?
