Oldest Living Brit Died Yesterday

Grace Jones was born on December 7, 1899. Queen Victoria still sat on the throne of a British Empire on which “the sun never set.” Ms. Jones was engaged to be married when World War I erupted - and her fiancé was killed in action. She would remain single for the rest of her life.

She lived by herself with the help of neighbors and was able to testify in 2012 at the trial of a burglar who had robbed her apartment twice.

The secret to Ms. Jones’ longevity? “Good English food. Never frozen.”

Grace Jones died on November 14, 2013 at the age of 113, which made her the 6th oldest person in the world. She would have turned 114 in just over three weeks.

The oldest living Briton is now Ethel Lang who was born in May 1900.
