Japanese Diver Has Been Meeting Up With This Fish For 25 Years

Today the Department of Unexpected Interspecies Friendship is donning scuba gear to dive down to the Hasama Underwater Park near Tateyama, Japan. That’s where a local diver named Hiroyuki Arakawa has been meeting up with his fish friend Yoriko, an Asian sheepshead wrasse, for the last 25 years.

Arakawa is responsible for maintaining a Shinto shrine located in the underwater park and Yoriko always comes to visit with him while he’s down there. When they first meet Arakawa customarily greets Yoriko with a little kiss on his/her head. Then Yoriko appears to enjoy watching Arakawa tend to the shrine.
