Rebekah came to Connie and myself from a high school student that took her after a High School Agriculture Teacher in Tennessee had two students kill her mother that was inside the school chicken coop. Rather than teach, "capture, relocate and release", the teacher's poor judgement resulted in two orphaned baby raccoons, which one made it into our lives. Rebekah only lived inside my home and had "free run" just like Gunshow did, both were bottle fed, slept in our bed at night, and followed our every step.

ReplyDeleteIf they don't give her back, we'll take her by force!
Delete(There are no laws about not keeping raccoons in Northern Ireland, are there?)
DeleteThey are legal there as long as certain rules are followed! http://www.doeni.gov.uk/niea/procyonids_a5_rebranded.pdf.pdf
DeleteStatutes concerning racoons vary here in the states
I'd keep it in the house and let it eat from the bin
DeleteWow, that's horrible. I hope their pet is returned to them.
ReplyDeleteI hope she is, too :)

DeleteWhen I was young (40 yrs ago) my father rescued 2 orphan raccoons also. (the mother had been killed on the road). We bottle fed them & watched them grow. I was about 8 at the time. My sisters & I would dress them up in doll clothes, wrap them around our necks like fur collars and watch them explore everything and get into all kinds of mischief! It was quite an education to watch them wash and examine everything they touched with those tiny "hands". They lived outside or in the barn. When fall came, they went away to hibernate. We often wondered what had happened to them. Then one day 2 yrs later, we were sitting at the picnic table. Along comes this large raccoon with babies. She kept the babies away, but she came right up and put her paws on the picnic table. We knew it was ours because of a distinct scar above her eye. She had come back to say thank you for saving her life, to show us that life continues, and that she had not forgotten us. It was an awesome experience for us to have been blessed to have these two unique pets - for ever such a short time.
ReplyDeleteAwwww that's a lovely story, she came back to show you her babies :)
