Don't get me wrong, I love his acting and used to subscribe to his YouTube channel where he opined on everything from world events to business to elephants, but he's definitely a few bricks shy of a load. I think he was probably nuts before he was in the motorcycle wreck and suffered some severe brain trauma. His son Jake is a pretty good actor as well, but a good example of "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree", both in looks and demeanor,.
I don't normally watch reality TV but I watched Celebrity Apprentice w/ him in it and he got into a big fight w/ Meat Loaf...not quite coming to blows, but I figured it might. I also watched the season of Celebrity Rehab, where he was under the delusion that he was there to be a counselor and not a patient.
The first time I remember noticing him in anything was in The Execution of Private Slovik, then his Oscar nominated performance in The Buddy Holly Story (great movie, watch it if you haven't - he sings the Holly songs and does a good impersonation) and a cute little movie called Foolin' Around w/ Annette O'Toole. He was brilliant in Carny, too, starring alongside Robbie Robertson and a young Jodie Foster.
The Execution Of Private Slovik Trailer Busey appears about .30 seconds in and doesn't have a huge part. Martin Sheen is fantastic in the role of the only U.S. soldier executed for desertion during WWII. (and speaking of Sheen, another of his finest roles was in Badlands w/ a very young Sissy Spacek)
I watched (again)The Execution of Private Slovik just a few weeks ago - powerful movie. I have The Buddy Holly Story on DVD, found Carny online a while back and d/l it and for some reason, can't find Foolin' Around except for an arm and a leg for a VHS tape on Amazon.
But....sharks aren't bat-crap crazy.

He is a lunatic but I love him since watching him on UK Big Brother last year :)

ReplyDeleteFunny scene: FOOLIN' AROUND - Wesley Meets Whitley
One of the best parts of Carny - art imitates life.
Gary Busey - Dunk Tank Clown
From one of my favorite movies. Holly was a Texan, you know and while he didn't "invent" rock and roll, he definitely helped to start the craze.
Gary Busey - The Buddy Holly Story - Rave On
Compare it to the "real thing"
Buddy Holly - Rave on!
