She has the bones for two toes, the bones aren't joined. It is just the skin and toe nails that are joined. Her pediatrician won't even refer us to a surgeon until she is 1. Most surgeons won't do it though until the child is 18 to 24 months old.
My little boy was born with complex syndactyly of his left hand. The complex means that bones, nerves and tendons are all intertwined, and he only has enough bones for 3 full fingers, then some bony fragments. He is 3 and has already had to have 4 surgeries and will continue to until he is fully grown. It is more serious, but it is still nice to see people be able to make light of this and have a sense of humor. After all, that's what helps get through the day most anyways!
I call it the "Super toe" LOL
ReplyDeleteI just heard of this a few months ago, when a pic was going around that somebody had pierced theirs.
ReplyDeleteWow somebody pierced their toes? Now I would like to see a pic of that!
ReplyDeleteKay, Super toe to the rescue!
ReplyDeleteZP, a piercing, arg. That could be irritating.
This condition is pretty easy for a surgeon to treat BTW if the toes are complete (Bony structures). Gizz
ReplyDeleteI dunno if baby Ashlynne would be up for that, Gizz! It's cool, she can still wear flip flops.

ReplyDeleteThis is the point where Gizz says..."I'll do it" lol
